DJ LV “the Oakland Raider”
La Verio Barnes, known to many as LV, was born with music in his blood. Growing up in and around Oakland, Ca, LV began his music career very early playing violin, saxophone, and drums where he quickly caught the attention of his peers and teachers as a student with a special gift. LV played with different jazz bands in numerous jazz festivals across northern California, but it was the love for drumming that would take him to a new level in music. As a drummer, LV began to hone in on his ability to pick up and play intricate rhythms and beats with ease.
As a sophomore in high school in 1986-87, LV took is music skills to the turntables and took on a new challenge, being a deejay. Quickly learning to cut and scratch, making creative remixes, and his ability to perfectly blend songs together made LV a hot commodity as the new up and coming deejay around the city. He went from rockin’ house and college parties to being the main deejay at a number of local clubs in Northern California.
In 1993, LV moved to Atlanta where he transferred to Clark Atlanta University on a football scholarship. Once acclimated in Atlanta, LV was exposed to a whole other world of music and began to broaden his horizons by spinning house music, reggae, and of course “booty shake”. Word quickly spread about his skills through his teammates and he found himself becoming a deejay in demand.
After graduating from Clark, LV teamed up with Urban Fusion Entertainment creator Darius Jones. Shortly after coming together, Urban Fusion quickly grew to be one of the premiere social events in Atlanta on a Tuesday night. As Urban Fusion grew, so did the name “DJ LV” and to this day is one of the major reasons LV is well known and respected in the Atlanta area.
With the success of Urban Fusion, LV found himself spinning at some of Atlanta’s hottest spots such as Eleven 50, Leopard Lounge, and the Crescent Room. He has been the deejay of choice for past events such as Mike Phillips Album Release party, local concerts for artists such as Joi and Brand Nubians, Hot 107.9/Ryan Cameron’s Bahamas Cruise and the infamous “1st Friday” events. Popular not only in Atlanta, LV has served up hot beats across the U.S. in Philadelphia, Detroit, Washington D.C., and Birmingham, to name a few.
DJ LV’s talent on the turntables has truly exploded over the last ten years and as a result, Urban Fusion Entertainment has expanded to include deejay services for weddings, private parties, corporate and club events. Set with all of the necessary equipment for any event, DJ LV can turn any event into the party of a lifetime…one that people will be talking about years from now!
